Summary of Sylvan Highlands Neighborhood Association Spring Cleanup
In association with SOLVE Oregon.
The event, held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, was a huge success. An estimated 60 people in all from all over the greater Portland area participated. There were three business groups: AAA, Providence Medical Group, and C & R Management Group who participated. Yea for them! And a nice representation from our little neighborhood. We also had five kids under 18 years old.
In three hours, we picked up approximately 300 lbs of trash, including a heavy safe. Sarah Harrington and company pulled ivy off of many trees, using three new ivy tools purchased with median flowerbed contributions. Aubrey Russell worked with a group of volunteers on the south side of the overpass to clean up the rose bed in ODOT’s forgotten flowerbed. The volunteers raked up plant and leaf debris and added manure to the base of each rose bush.
Debbie and Dan Lamberger spearheaded an effort on Canyon Court East, clearing the sidewalk of overgrown blackberries and other plants that inhibited pedestrian access.
After everyone went home, neighbors continued to fill the 30-yard dumpster donated by our partner, Waste Management. By Sunday morning, the dumpster was full of downed tree limbs from the recent snowstorm.
Thank you neighbors and friends for beautifying our pocket of Portland!
